Askar Mozharov +200 over Alonso Menifield

4:30 PM EST. Askar Mozharov has been the talk of Vegas this week for all of the wrong reasons, but the controversy surrounding his fighting record is not one that deserves all the attention it’s been getting. Mozharov made his way to the UFC fighting in his native Ukraine, Russia, China and anywhere else that would have him. "No Mercy" posted a 25-7 record when the fight week began, but some sleuthing has found that he’s likely closer to 19-12, but really, at this point, do a few fight discrepancies on the worldwide circuit really matter? We think not. This may be a blessing in disguise, as it’s taken his opponent's attention away from the fight. Seriously, should Alonso Menifield be focused on “No Mercy’s” past or should Menifield be more worried about Mozharov’s future?

This play has little to do with Mozharov, as Menifield is just a weak favorite. Why? Well, let us count the ways. First, Alonso has a weak chin. Second, he has a low fight IQ. Third, Alonso is extremely flawed and limited in his abilities. Had enough? Want more?

This is what we know about Alonzo, he’s going to get hit and hit often. Dude can’t help himself and even if his best path to victory would be to wrestle, he’s not likely to go there. Instead, Alonzo prefers to strike. In his UFC career, Alonzo has faced some weak competition, but that weak competition has given him fits. Alonzo is now 34 and he’s lost three of his last five fights. Where is there for him to go in the 205 lbs. division besides down the ladder? If Alonzo stubbornly commits to a stand-up affair, these odds are going to look like a gift. On the feet, this should be much closer to a coinflip than the odds will have you believe. If Alonzo finally puts it together here, so be it, but this has all the makings of his night ending with him looking up at the lights.

Our Pick

Askar Mozharov +200 (Risking 2 units - To Win: 4.00)
