Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (Inside the Distance) +105 over Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira

12:15 AM EST. The eagerness to back the underdog champion in Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira, is something that we can totally relate to. In fact, it was our first inclination as well. It’s not often the man with the strap—on a three-year (nine-fight) winning streak, is disrespected by the oddsmakers. Well, that’s what the “efficient market” would have you believe.

While the plus money price on Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier may look appealing on fight day, if you liked the champ, you’ve missed the boat. Dude opened at +145 or so depending on where you shop and has seen the lion’s share of the action since. That’s in sharp contrast to “Do Bronx’s” last two fights in which the efficient market backed both Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson to lackluster results. The market won’t get burned by Oliveira again it seems. Or will it?

Dustin Poirier has won three straight fights since his mauling at the hands of then 155 lbs champion Khabib Nurmagomedov back in September of 2019, but with two of those victories coming over Conor McGregor, “The Diamond” is not being given his due. Sure, McGregor is a walking meme at this point, but that doesn’t mean those stoppages earlier this year have no value. In case you forgot, Poirier has been on a near five-year tear that has seen him beat the best the sport has seen. Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alverez, Max Holloway and yes, Conor McGregor. Like it or not, “The Diamond” is about to get his due.

Oddsmakers do not figure this one will go the five-round distance (-400) and neither do we. With that in mind, the prudent play here is to back Dustin Poirier to finish this fight and take home the 155 lbs crown officially. No interim titles, no bullshit. Dude’s time has come. This is Poirier’s fight to lose.
