Daniel Rodriguez +126 over Kevin Lee

UFC VEGAS 35 - UFC Apex - Las Vegas, NV

11:15 PM EST. If one were to look up "consistently inconsistent" in the MMA dictionary, Kevin Lee's picture just might be there. Has there been a more frustratingly talented fighter the last four or five years than "The Motown Phenom?" Dude started his UFC run on a tear by going 8-1 from 2014-2017 before earning a title shot against then-interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. That would end in a submission loss for Lee and the start of his up and down run in the Octagon.

Lee has been a man without a home, as he's jumped between 155 and 170 lbs. He missed weight in his win over Edson Barboza (who will headline tonight's card), which was his follow up fight after the loss to Ferguson. Then Lee dropped a fight at 155 lbs to Al Iaquinta, which was followed by a loss at 170 lbs to Rafael dos Anjos. Nobody would confuse the former 155 lbs champion in "RDS" as a "proper" sized welterweight. Lee returned to lightweight with a win over Gregor Gillespie in November of 2019 and made his last appearance in the Octagon in March of 2020. That fight was a loss to current UFC Lightweight kingpin Charles Oliveira. Lee again missed weight in that fight and will return after an injury plagued year and a half to fight once again at 170 lbs.

The man to meet Lee is Daniel Rodriguez, who is not as well known as "Motown," at least not yet. Rodriguez is six fights into his UFC career and while it took him longer than most, he's made the most of it, going 5-1. He's on a two fight win streak, both coming here in 2021 and he appears to be ready to take the step to the next level. Rodriguez is the bigger man, the better striker and he's very tough to wear down. Finally, Lee is coming off not one but two ACL tears. That's one for each knee if you need it. If "Motown" comes back sans ring rust to put on another "Performance of the Night" winner, so be it, but the value here is with "D-Rod."
