UFC 255 - UFC APEX - Las Vegas, NV

Brandon Royval +162 over Brandon Moreno

Streaming: Prelims ESPN, PPV BT Sport 1

9:40 PM EST. Brandon Royval is 2-0 in the UFC, but to give you an idea of just how far off the radar this dude is, when you look up "Brandon Royval" up on Google, his opponent's Wikipedia page comes up, you know, because he doesn't have one. Despite that lack of respect from the internet, Royval has not just won in his first two trips to the Octagon; he's been snatching souls after finishing the uber tough Tim Elliot with a triangle choke in his debut back in May. Royval followed up that impressive performance with another submission stoppage over Kai Kara-France at UFC 253 in September by way of a guillotine choke.

There has been much discussion about how the #1 ranked flyweight was passed over not only once but twice for this championship opportunity. At first, it made sense, with a superstar name in Cody Garbradndt returning to the Octagon with an impressive win over Raphael Assuncao back in June. After all, money talks and if you're trying to sell pay-per-views having a fighter that at least some of your audience is familiar with is a good start. However, with Brandon Moreno being passed over for the even lesser known and lower-ranked Alex Perez, some feathers have been ruffled. It's not like Moreno wasn't ready to fight, as he's taking on the #6 ranked Royval. While Moreno may feel that he has been slighted, he has a tough as nails challenger in front of him. If he's caught looking ahead or dwelling on what should have been, he's going to sleep. At the very least, the value is tremendous.
