3:45 PM EST. Alexander Volkov is 6’7” with an 80-inch reach and is a master of range fighting. He knows how to keep his opponents at the end of his strike. He uses his reach to make his opponents take damage but not give it back. That was until he faced Curtis Blaydes on June 20, 2020, in the main event of the evening. Alexander “Drako” Volkov was a +265 underdog in that fight and he was outsmarted, outclassed and outfought right from the start. In the first round, Blaydes took Volkov to the mat and while Volkov was on all fours for 5 minutes, Blaydes was kneeing him constantly in the upper thigh and lower back. By the time Round 2 rolled around, Volkov was so concerned about being on the bottom again for five minutes that he became vulnerable to jabs and punches, which Blaydes unleashed to start the round before taking him to the mat again. That pretty much went on for the duration of the fight. Curtis Blaydes did not finish Volkov but he schooled him for five rounds despite being the smaller man. Volkov looked like he went five rounds while Blaydes didn’t have a mark on his entire body.

In his last fight on May 15, 2020, Walt Harris was a -165 favorite over well-known Alistair Overeem and failed to deliver, losing by a TKO in the 2nd round. The fight against Overeem had to be rescheduled not once, but twice, the latter due to the coronavirus. The first cancellation however, was due to personal reasons. You see Walt Harris was in a dark place. His stepdaughter, Aniah Blanchard, went missing in October of 2019. In late November of the same year, her remains were discovered in a wooded area of Macon County. An autopsy determined she died of a gunshot wound. She was kidnapped and murdered and although the assailant was caught and is facing the death penalty, Harris was not in the right frame of mind when his first fight was cancelled on December 7th, less than two weeks after her remains were found.

When Harris eventually fought Overeem on May 15, again, he was a -165 favorite but one could hardly fault him for losing that fight, as it is virtually impossible to understand what he was going through. This is his second fight since the death of his stepdaughter and by his own admission, “The Big Ticket” is in a better place than he was back in May. While we question Walt Harris’ durability, he’s an extremely experienced fighter that was on the verge of taking Overeem out in the first round and we sure as hell would not trust Volkov at this price. Although he’s 36, Harris goes from a -165 fav to a +165 underdog over the course of one fight.
