Makwan Amirkhani +230 over Edson Barboza

Posted at 12:30 PM EST.

10:15 PM EST. Sometimes a line gets posted and we just have to shake our heads. Perhaps Edson Barboza returns to his peak form and lays waste to Makwan Amirkhani in this fight, but there is a genuine possibility that "Mr. Finland" rag dolls the Brazilian to the mat and makes him say "uncle." Barboza has been a UFC mainstay for a decade, but he has not won a fight in nearly two years and that victory over Dan Hooker back in December of 2018 is the only one he's racked up in his last six fights (1-5). Those last two losses were split decisions to Dan Ige and Paul Felder. Those defeats have apparently lit a fire under Barboza, who said that he's "never felt so great in my whole career, hands down. Psychologically, physically and most of all, I feel motivated." We have to wonder, is Barboza really back, or is he just trying to convince himself? We're betting on the latter.

Amirkhani is eight fights into his UFC career, racking up six wins to just two defeats. While he's yet to face the best the promotion has to offer, he has taken care of business against the fighters he's been pitted against. He's submitted two of his last three opponents with his anaconda choke of Jason Knight, earning him a Performance of the Night bonus, which was the second time he's earned that bonus check. In his last fight against Danny Henry, Amirkani finished his man with a first-round sub. That bout took place here on Fight Island at UFC 251 in July. This fight is not expected to go the distance, making Amirkhani to finish at 4-1 worthy of your consideration. However, we will not get greedy just in case he grapples his way to a decision win.
