Brandon Royval +140 over Tim Elliot

UFC on ESPN 9 - UFC APEX - Las Vegas, NV

7:05 PM EST. Brandon Royval is making his UFC debut tonight after taking a phone call from the promotion last week. We often like backing fighters that come in on short notice because they are often unknown or undervalued based on the situation. However, Royval has made a name for himself on the regional circuit, as he's only seen the judge's scorecards in one of his 10 victories. He finished six others by submission and three by knockout. His last two wins came by way of first-round armbar in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he won that organization's Flyweight Championship. His promotion to the big league is long overdue.

Tim Elliott is only 33-years-old, but he does not have much tread left on those tires after 26 professional fights, including six tilts inside the Octagon. Elliott burst onto the UFC scene in December of 2016 with a Flyweight Championship fight with then-champion Demetrious Johnson. Elliot would lose that contest and then three of his next five fights across two divisions. Elliott has dropped two straight and now has his back against the wall, as three losses in a row could be the end of his UFC run. It's impossible to know how a fighter will respond to that kind of pressure, but this is being called a "must-win," which is one of the more tired angles in the market.
