Gadelha/Barboza +151 over Hill/Ige

Parlay

UFC of ESPN 8

10:15 PM EST. This is a two-fight parlay. We have Gadelha and Barboza to win their fights respectively over Hill and Ige.

Angela Hill has seen an uptick in popularity after three straight wins in just six months. Those fights saw Hill step in on short notice twice and battle in three different countries, including a trip to New Zealand in her last appearance, which resulted in a victory over Loma Lookoonmee. Hill has been getting a ton of the media spotlight, as she is now being featured in a co-main event spot for the first time. With little sports coverage, ESPN has thrown its entire promotional weight behind these UFC cards and Hill has been dubbed the female "Cowboy," as an ode to Donald Cerrone, for her willingness to step in and fight seemingly anybody at any time. However, Hill will take a big step up in competition here, which makes her a prime fade target with the spotlight white-hot.

Claudia Gadelha has been a mainstay in the UFC's Strawweight division since its inception in 2014, but has not been able to climb to the top of the mountain despite having her opportunities. Gadelha may appear to be in the gatekeeper's role here, but it's too early to throw dirt on her in this spot. There is a reason the books have made  strongly hyped fighter such an appealing underdog here and it’s not because they are in the habit of throwing away money.

Like Gadelha, Edson Barboza appears to be in a position to help make a new star in the UFC, but this is not the time to sell on "Junior." Barboza has lost four of his last fights, but a closer look shows that he's been squaring off against some of the best the Lightweight division had to offer. Losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje are forgivable while his split decision loss to Paul Felder at UFC 242 in September could have and probably should have gone Barboza's way. Barboza will drop to Featherweight tonight and take on #15 ranked Dan Ige.

Ige won five straight fights after losing his UFC debut. Ige came onto the scene by way of Dana White's Contender Series and his ascent to the UFC rankings has been a natural one. However, he has never faced someone in the league of Barboza. None of Ige's prior victories have come over ranked competition. Barboza has proven that he is so much more than that after competing against some of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, making him an undervalued favorite and one half of our two-teamer.
