Demian Maia +156 over Gilbert Burns

7:45 PM EST Those looking to put 42-year-old Demian Maia out to pasture after his three-fight losing streak in 2017-18 have been greatly disappointed, as the grappling legend has ripped off three straight wins, including an impressive Fight of the Night performance against Ben Askren at UFC Fight Night in Singapore last October. Those defeats, by the way, came to current UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, former interim champion Colby Covington and then UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley. Can an all-time great get a little respect around here? Maia has been relegated to the role of gatekeeper, but it's one he has relished. We expect no different tonight, as Maia will face off with the man that many think will replace him.

Gilbert Burns has been called a "younger, stronger version of Maia," but it's not like he's some up and coming prospect. At 33, "Durinho" has been kicking around the UFC since his debut in 2014, where he holds a 10-3 record. Burns has won four straight, but the level of competition is nothing to write home about. Olivier Aubin-Mercier is no longer in the UFC. Mike Davis has just two UFC fights to his name and Alexey Kuncherko also has just a few UFC fights under his belt. A decision win over Gunner Nelson last time out looks good in that most fight fans have at least heard of Nelson, but he has been trading wins and losses for years. That is not a resume that should have Burns favored in this range. We love that Burns has been flapping his gums about becoming the first fighter ever to submit Maia, but that is easier said than done. The more likely scenario is that the jiu-jitsu legend slams the gate shut once again.
