Derrick Lewis +167 over Junior Dos Santos

Ultimate Fighting Championship - INTRUST Bank Arena, Wichita, Kansas, United States

10:45 PM EST. Fireworks are expected here with a pair of heavyweight sluggers squaring off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 146, as "The Black Beast" takes on "Cigano" in Wichita, Kansas. On the surface, there is a lot to like here from a potential entertainment standpoint because Derrick Lewis is a power puncher through and through. He's a throwback to the days when Senator John McCain called the sport "human cockfighting." Back to the times of the gladiator when you just bit down and threw haymakers. That style along with Lewis’ charming personality has made him a fan favorite to be sure with his long list of knockouts getting nearly as much attention as that time he told Joe Rogan, "My balls were hot,” after he took his shorts off in the cage following a third-round knockout off Alexander Volkov last October. That KO led Lewis to get a short noticed shot at champion and arguably the best heavyweight of all time, Daniel Cormier, less than a month later. Lewis was out of his element and no extended period of prep time was likely to be enough for him to overcome "DC," but unlike many, we're not going to write Lewis off as a one-trick pony after having his warts exposed in that fight.

This has been called Junior Dos Santos’ fight to lose because he has championship pedigree as a former titleholder. He's the better "true" athlete, who is in superior condition and he has all of the tools that Lewis brings to the cage and then some with his pro like boxing chops, but rarely do things go just as they are supposed to in a fight. "JDS" is 35 and has some miles on him after making his UFC debut with a knockout of legend Fabrício Werdum at UFC 90 in 2008. Since then its been nothing but the best the division has to offer, Cro Cop, Carwin, Cain, Mir, Stipe, Overeem and so many more recognizable names along the way have taken their shots at Dos Santos. Since his wars with Cain Velasquez, "Cigano" has not been the same, as he traded wins and losses for nearly six years before winning his last two fights over Tai Tuivasa and Blagoy Ivanov respectively. Dos Santos had moved into the gatekeeper role for those up and coming fighters, but the old man didn't go down and actually finished Tuivasa in Australia in December. JDS outlasted Ivanov and picked him apart for a five round decision, but the Russian took his pound with 51 significant strikes landed including 40 to the Brazilian's noggin. Perhaps this fight plays out in the same way with Lewis taking his shots early and JDS outlasting him for the win, but this price prompts a play on the underdog and if that underdog does happen to win, chances are high it will be inside the distance at a price of +225. Lewis always has a "puncher's chance."
