Boston +110 over Minnesota

7:40 PM EST. We’ll go right back to the Red Sox here after a frustrating wager last night that saw the Red Sox belt out 10 hits and score just twice. Boston’s 3, 4 and 5 hitters (Bogaerts, Devers and J.D. Martinez) went a combined 0-12. They’ll now get their cracks at Chris Archer (RHP - MIN). No chance that trio goes 0-12 again tonight. In any event, Chris Archer is another one of Minnesota’s way past their prime starters. He can barely make it past four innings these days. He has walked 43 batters in 91 innings with a mere 78 K’s and it doesn’t look to be getting any better. Add in a velocity drop, fly-ball spike, and the decision to stop throwing his sinker and the best case from here is he gets luck in between continued blowups.

After Kutter Crawford (RHP - BOS) was recalled in early July he put up a 2.38 ERA and 32/5 K/BB across 34 innings in his first six appearances (five starts). However, in four outings since, he has served up 20 earned runs and five jacks in 19.1 IP (9.31 ERA), including a 9 earned run debacle at the hands of Baltimore two starts back. Kutter has shown flashes. His command foundation has backed up his elite control: 67% first-pitch strike rate, 32% Ball%. We’d like to see more groundballs to sustain the low 3.1% barrel% he flashed in July, but his mature approach bodes well for his future and he and the Red Sox are most certainly worthy of a wager here.
