7:05 PM EST. Yusei Kikuchi (LHP - SEA) is taking a lot of heat in the Canadian market as the weak link in the Toronto rotation. That’s what happens when you don’t perform after signing a three-year deal worth 36M but we’re not going to write him off just yet. What we especially like is that Kikuchi is coming off a gross performance Kikuchi in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals. He gave up three runs on two hits and four walks while recording only two outs, both via strikeout. His ERA last game was 40.50. We’ll take it all with a grain of salt because Kikuchi has a deep repertoire of quality pitches led by his curveball and split. He still has 52 K’s in 47 frames with a strong swing and miss rate of 14%. Even though Toronto is spotting runs and juice, it’s still a bargain here against Jordan Lyles (RHP - BAL) and the Orioles.

Personally, I’ve watched a lot of baseball over the past 50 years and I can honestly say that I can’t ever recall seeing a starting pitcher get hit as hard as Lyle does left-handed batters. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays have a heavy right-handed lineup but we don’t care, as Lyles will face two and possibly three lefties and none of them are Toronto’s top batters. That instantly adds three more great bats to 6 potent bats against a starter that is an equal opportunity hard-contact machine with long-standing HR issues. Okay, NOW you can step in.
