N.Y. YANKEES -2½ +115 over L.A. Angels

7:05 PM EST. Gerrit Cole (RHP - NYY) had a 4.71 ERA during July, leading some to wonder if MLB's crackdown on sticky substances was to blame. Not so fast. Cole was victimized by a substantially unlucky 41% hit rate. His base skills were electric (2.29 xERA) In fact, his 29% K-BB% was the second highest mark in the game. Dude has a sick BB/K split of 28/176 in 130 frames.

José Suarez (LHP - LAA) has yet to post a pure quality start since joining Joe Maddon's staff in early July. While his 3.90 ERA and 1.25 WHIP appear solid, his 20 walks and 73 strand rate in 55 innings this season are concerning. In his previous June 28th outing in Yankee Stadium, he limited the club to one run and one walk over 5.1 frames. With an improved Yankee lineup, that ain’t happening again.

Above is the starting pitching preview but this wager is more about fading a team that is traveling for a one day stop, a make-up game from a postponed game earlier in the year. The Angels travel from Houston to New York for this one-off game before traveling to Detroit for a three-game set beginning tomorrow.

We played this angle recently when the Reds were a big price in Cleveland. The Baseball Team hammered the Reds that day because it’s such a difficult and unaccustomed spot for the visitor. For the Angels or any team traveling for one game, it's a massive inconvenience and while we are not in the business of spotting 2½ runs, we’re going to make a rare exception here. If you would rather skip this game, we do want to point out that the Yanks will play a doubleheader tomorrow against the Red Sox, which is something we considered and you may want to also. For us, it’s still a play because these “one-offs” produce blowouts.
