KANSAS CITY -1½ +135 over Baltimore

2:10 PM EST. A big-bodied pitcher with maxed-out physique, Carlos Hernández (RHP - KC) gets this start after appearing in 12 games out of the bullpen. Don’t expect Hernandez to go deep into this game, as he’s only thrown 22 frames over said 12 appearances. He has 30 K’s in 22 frames with a 98 MPH fastball but his command is shaky at the best of times. There could be a solid starter in here if Hernández were able to push his command but again, he’s a work in progress and is very unlikely to make it to the third inning. That said, this wager has nothing to do with getting behind K.C’s bullpen game strategy.

Matt Harvey (RHP - BAL) is nothing more than a warm body that the Orioles brass will pay and then pray that he eats up some innings. The end is near for Matt Harvey so let’s attempt to eat. Dude has an 8.9% swing & miss rate and will face a Kansas City team that strikes out less than every team in the majors with the exception of the Astronauts and Blue Jays. Harvey has been abysmal since undergoing thoracic outlet syndrome surgery five years ago. Over that time, he’s thrown 392 MLB innings with a 6.09/6.63 ERA/xERA split. In 2020, Harvey appeared in seven games with the Royals and compiled an 11.57 ERA - his xERA was a still unpalatable 6.42. These Royals’ hitters have seen Harvey at his worst and know him well because they had to endure the wrath while he pitched for them. He comes in with a 1.76 WHIP, meaning constant traffic and opportunities.
