DETROIT -1½ +265 over Chicago

7:10 PM EST. Lance Lynn (RHP - CHI) cashed in with his offseason contract and he’s led the White Sox this season with a 7-3 record and a 2.06 ERA. Numbers like that will turn heads, especially with over a week to go before the All-Star break. Lynn's surface stats may be impressive, but there are holes to poke once you get under the hood. A 35% ground ball rate is the bottom of a four-year decline. A fortunate 86% strand rate means a correction is coming.

Eat. Sleep. Tigers. Repeat. While only July, you've likely seen either Casey Mize (RHP - DET) or one of Detroit's other well regarded young hurlers with regularity in this space. For that, there are good reasons. They are grossly undervalued nearly every day. Today is Mize's turn and what hasn't there been to like about his second year? A 50% groundball rate is elite. Dude has allowed three or fewer runs a game in his last 11 starts. Last time out, Mize was impressive against an Astros’ side that is very picky, limiting the Garbage Pail Bangers to just one run on six hits over six innings in a 3-1 Tigers win. Detroit swept the Baseball Team in a doubleheader on Wednesday and like we mentioned the last time we wrote these guys up, this is a team that is having fun growing together and they seemingly can't wait to get to the ballpark. Furthermore, Mize figures to come at the South Side with confidence. You see, he's fared about the same in two starts against the White Sox this year, with a 4.15 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 3.85 xERA, but he does own his best swing and miss rate against them (17.1%). With the South Side lineup coming off of a bottom-10 month of June (.710 OPS), Mize and the Tigers could be catching them at a good time.
