L.A. Angels +155 over TAMPA BAY

7:09 PM EST. The Rays have all the makings of a contender, no doubt, but it's a long season, and this price is ridiculous. Firstly, it is not like Andrew Kittredge (RHP - TB) was some top prospect waiting to pop. Dude was a 49th round pick in 2008 and so one has to wonder where this late career surge is coming from.

Much of the Rays hype comes from their AL East leading ways, as well as playing runner up to the Dodgers in last year's World Series. This week, however, the Rays received a huge boost to both their lineup and market appeal when top ranked prospect Wander Franco joined the squad. The kid did not disappoint in his debut, going 2-of-4 with two runs, a dinger and three RBIs. His OPS in game one was 2.100! Franco will be one of the best soon enough, but sometimes the transition to the bigs is not that easy, especially when coming from Triple A. Just look to Jarred Kelenic of the Mariners, who ranks right behind Franco. Dude hit a homer in his first weekend and found himself back on the bus before the end of June. Since returning to Triple A, Kelenic is still in a slump. Franco is 0-for-7 since his breakout night and he had three strikeouts in his last game. That was a steep decline from the zero he posted in night one and the one in night two. Three games in and it looks like the wunderkind might be gripping it.

A breakdown of the Angels here is not necessary, as it is the price that dictates this play. Griffin Canning (RHP - LAA) is a former second round pick and is coming into his own here in his third season. While a 5.07 ERA will not impress, his 4.13 xERA is much more serviceable. What is most impressive here in 2021 is his move from an average to an elite swinging strike rate. When you can get opposing hitters to miss the good stuff in the zone at a 14.7% clip, you can ride with us at prices like this. Win, lose or draw, this is without question an overlay.
