1:10 PM EST. Tyler Alexander (LHP - DET) is listed as the starter for the Tigers in Detroit against Seattle. While this might appear to be a juicy matchup against the Mariners' weak .679 road OPS and their .637 OPS versus LHP (14th in AL), be aware that this is undoubtedly a bullpen game. The last time Alexander started, he went one inning, and his longest outing of the season is 3 IP, so he’ll be out early and Detroit’s pen is about as unreliable as an email from (name the country).

The Mariners came back to even the series last night and they are nicely positioned to take the rubber game today. Detroit has not fared well in day games this year (only 9-21) and they average a mere 3.8 runs per game. Justus Sheffield has improved steadily in recent outings (3.38/3.93 ERA/xERA split the last two starts). By limiting walks and keeping the ball on the ground (58% grounders), Sheffield can avoid disaster most of the time.
