Detroit +140 over SEATTLE

Logan Gilbert (RHP - SEA) was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 draft. He dominated three different levels of the minors in 2019 while displaying excellent control of his four-pitch arsenal. He mixes a mid-90s four-seam fastball with a lively two-seamer, and those are primarily offset by a low-80s slider and a knuckle-curve. Double-A proved no problem for Gilbert, but the big indicator of future success will be whether he can maintain his excellent control at the big league level. If so, then he has the strong potential to settle into a mid-rotation (or better) spot. One fantasy baseball writer wrote back in early March of 2021, "This may be your last chance to get him cheap. You'll be glad you did". While that may be true, Gilbert has four major league innings to his name. He struck out five batters and walked none but he also did not induce a single ground ball. Every ball was hit in the air to the outfield. He ended up surrendering two jacks in a 4-2 loss to the light hitting Indians. It’s unlikely he’ll go past five again, as these highly touted prospects are being treated like a little toddler that is just learning to walk.

Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal (LHP, DET) is an unheralded collegian who raced through the minors and is now a highly-regarded prospect with both repertoire and stuff. His swing and miss rate and K% arrived as advertised. Skubal remains one of the more intriguing young starters in the game. But he's still a work-in-progress, as evidenced by his 5.73 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 33 innings. Still, the Tigers have some great scouting on the Mariners and they’re executing it to perfection. Seattle has been crickets this entire series and now a green as can be rookie is a big favorite over a not so green starter that has already paid some of his dues. Big overlay
