N.Y. Yankees -1½ +115 over TORONTO

7:10 PM EST. In need of a spot starter in the 2nd game of a doubleheader on Sunday, August 30, the Yankees promoted Deivi Garcïa (RHP - NYY). Garcia is one of the Yankees top prospects and a lot of eyes were on him that day, as he was potentially being dangled as a trading chip. He stands only 5’9”, but he has an electric arm and a bevy of outstanding offerings. Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2015, Garcia can throw any of his four pitches in any count. He establishes the plate with a fantastic 91-95 mph fastball that touches 98 mph. His best secondary pitch is a curveball that is rated by some scouts as double-plus. He also uses a hard slider and solid change-up. Garcia can be dominant at times and make pitching look easy. If he can polish his sequencing, his upside could be even higher. Given the two breaking balls can be thrown with velocity and power, he can wipe out hitters with relative ease. His size will likely be treated with skepticism, but his arm strength cannot be sold short. In two starts covering 11 frames, Garcia has walked two and struck out 12 with a supported 13% swing and miss rate. Dude can pitch.

We’re not sure how the worst starter in the majors signed a 24M deal for two years but bodies are scarce in the majors these days and Tanner Roark (RHP - TOR) at least takes the hill every 5th day. Roark faces the Yankees in Buffalo tonight, and his recent form (5 HR allowed in last three starts) doesn't bode well for the launching pad that is Sahlen Field, even against a diminished Yankee lineup. That this stiff has lost one game in seven starts is a minor miracle. Roark has a 1.79 WHIP and a 1.93 WHIP over his last five starts. He has a league worse 8.94 xERA over his last four starts, not to mention a 52% first-pitch strike rate. One loss in seven starts? How can that be?
