TORONTO +135 over Boston

7:07 PM EST. There had been an undercurrent of conversation inside and outside Fenway Park dating back to August and September of 2018 about whether Dave Dombrowski was in jeopardy of losing his job as president of baseball operations, an ownership decision that might have been deferred by the club's World Series victory last fall. It is not immediately known why the firing went down Sunday night, at midnight of the third game of a wraparound series in mid-September. Nonetheless, the Red Sox are not going to the playoffs this year and combined with their World Series victory last year, it appears as though this team is going to ge great fade material the rest of the way. The Red Sox have checked out and we cannot think of another team that represents “playing out the string” more than Boston.

The pitching matchup here does not matter, as two shaky starters hook up. Jhoulys Chacin (RHP - BOS) has been on seven teams since 2014. Milwaukee, a team decimated by injuries to starting pitchers wanted nothing to do with Chacin. That’s telling. Chacin’s line drive rate in his last start was 60%. He has walked 40 batters in 92 frames with an 8% swing & miss rate. Bottom line is that he’s highly overvalued on the road because it’s Boston v Toronto. For Toronto, it’ll be Clay Buchholtz (LHP - TOR) and while he doesn’t strike pout many, we like his 56%/12%/32% groundball/line-drive/fly-ball rates over his last three starts covering 18 innings.

The Blue Jays are young, enthusiastic, talented and love coming to the park. The Red Sox feature a bunch of vets that just want to go home and we also love that the Red Sox have Friday off because we’re sure they’re looking more forward to Friday off than playing another meaningless game in Toronto.
