2:10 PM EST. Jordan Lyles (RHP - MIL) goes this afternoon against the Cardinals, a club that has given him trouble this season and in the past. Recently, Lyles has faltered on both sides of the command equation while posting a 6.16 xERA over his last five starts. Lyles has some of the worst peripherals against lefties (7.52 ERA, 1.82 WHIP) and the Cardinals are quietly becoming a freight train. In fact, St. Louis has won six in a row, they have taken over first in the NL Central and they have scored six or more runs in all six wins for a total of 49 runs scored over that span.

Then there’s Jack Flaherty (RHP - ST. L), who takes a backseat to nobody in this league. This is probably a future Cy Young winner and could come as quickly as next season. Flaherty is putting up Nolan Ryan like numbers these days. He has whiffed 40 batters over his last 32 innings and overall he’s whiffed 171 in 146 frames. He has outstanding control and the sub-indicators to support everything he’s doing, which includes a 15% swing & miss rate. Now in his second season, Flaherty has five pitches that all produced positive value in 2018 and even more so this year. Jack Flaherty is averaging a Nolan Ryan-like 13.5 K’s per nine over his last couple of starts and now he’ll face a reeling Brewers’ eight that has never seen a pitch they didn’t like.
