4:05 PM EST. Logan Webb (RHP - SF) made his MLB debut at Arizona on Aug. 17 when he struck out seven and limited the Diamondbacks to one earned run in five innings. That was at a hitter’s paradise and this one is not. In 63.1 MiLB IP, the lefty induced plenty of groundouts to help his 1.85 ERA. His 69 K/15 BB contributed to a 1.15 WHIP. Webb was a fourth round pick in 2014 and had not pitched above Double-A prior to 2019. He missed a significant portion of 2016 and 2017 due to having Tommy John surgery and just recently returned from an 80-game PED suspension. However, despite those developmental setbacks, the 22-year-old is now where he belongs. Webb features three above-average pitches: a mid-90s two-seam fastball, a slider with a good break, and an 11-to-5 curve. He has the repertoire and body frame to be a starter. Webb has made four different minor league stops this season, and his overall line is sparkling: a 1.85 ERA in 63.1 IP along with a 9.8 strikeout rate per nine innings and 2.1 BB’s/9 with the bulk of those innings coming at Double-A. At Triple A, he only made one start but he was great in it and we also want to point out his elite groundball rate over his career of 57%, 68%, 52%, 54%, 63% 66% at three different levels of pro ball over the past three seasons.

Brett Anderson (LHP - OAK) is scheduled to make this start against the Giants after leaving his last start with a blister on his left hand. Starts versus Texas, Milwaukee, Cubs, Giants and Houston have resulted in a 5.02 ERA in his last five games started but it could and probably should be worse. Anderson’s 8% swing and miss rate and 4.6 K’s/9 is horrible. His 40% hard-contact allowed rate at home has resulted in a 5.13 home xERA and 1.52 home WHIP. Brett Anderson has 40 walks and 74 K’s in 144 innings. Every outcome is reliant on luck-fueled outcomes (BABIP, strand rates) and frankly, he’s pitching on borrowed time. Brett Anderson priced in this range is absurd.
