Additionally, the Rays will go with a “bullpen start”, which also is nothing new so there is no point in discussing their pitching. While guys like Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton and to a lesser degree Domingo German may be worthy of spotting prices like this, C.C. Sabathia (LHP - NYY) is certainly not. 

This will be the fifth time C.C. Sabathia has faced the Rays in 2019, and while he's been quite successful against them (3-1, 2.63 ERA), his skills tell a different story with 6.8 K’s/9 and a 5.42 xERA. Five times in a half a year is a lot to see one starting pitcher, thus making Sabathia an even bigger risk than he already is. Sabathia has enjoyed luck and not skill against the Rays with a BABIP of .221 and a strand rate of 89%. Can his luck hold up for another few innings? Of course it can but the Rays will square up and hit the ball hard so let’s see where the ol’ ball bounces. If this was 2008, C.C. would be worthy of this price but 4000 hamburgers later, he’s not.
