10:07 PM EST. The Angels are playing as good as any team in baseball yet they’re a dog at home here because the Astronauts are the Astronauts. Thing is, Houston is running short on starters so they’ll start Joshua James (RHP - HOU) here, a career reliever who will go two innings at most if everything goes perfect. James has appeared in 35 games for the Astros, all in relief covering 48 innings. He has an incredible 76 K’s in those 48 innings and the market will eat that up. Starting is a different animal and there’s a reason why he’s in the pen. He’s a two-pitch pitcher and the bullpen is where two-pitch pitchers always land. One of the pleasant surprises last season, Josh James went from a RHP surviving barely on a pedestrian fastball to a MLB pitcher throwing mid-90s and becoming one of the Astros top prospects. If he strikes out all six batters in the first two innings, he’ll be relieved. Incidentally, the Angels are the best team in MLB in not striking out.

Griffin Canning (RHP - LAA) owns a 3.41 ERA and 0.90 WHIP at home because he gives up far less jacks in his home park. He’s yielded six HR’s over his last four starts, but sports a much more favorable 1.3 hr/9 at Angels Stadium, versus a 2.3 hr/9 on the road. He currently owns the ninth-best swing & miss rate among all starters this season (15%) with a 9.5 K’s/9 rate. (35th). The Angels are a focused and determined group that are playing for their fallen teammate and are absolutely a LIVE pooch here. Very live.
