7:10 PM EST. Let’s go back to last weekend in Philadelphia where the Mets were in for a four-game set and got swept. In Game 1 of that series, the Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, had a 4-3 lead but got whacked 13-7. In Game 2 on Friday, the Mets had a 4-1 lead and lost 7-5. Finally, in Game 3 on Saturday, the Mets had a 4-0 lead going to the seventh but lost 5-4. Finally, on Sunday, to add salt to the wound, the Mets had a 3-1 lead going to the ninth but lost 6-3 after Jean Segura’s walk-off, three-run shot. One could only imagine how the Mets felt walking off the field on Sunday after a 5-run ninth by the Phillies that completed the sweep. We’re pretty sure that the Metropolitans will be extra-jacked up to get another shot at this very average visitor after blowing not one, not two, not three, but all four games in Philadelphia last weekend.

Vince Velasquez (RHP - PHI) has been in and out of the rotation this season. In his nine starts, he is 1-4 with a 4.83 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. None of those nine starts have resulted in a pure quality start. He has struggled on the road where in 34 innings he has a 5.50 ERA and 1.60 WHIP.

Jacob deGrom (RHP - NYM) is coming into this start on a hot streak, as he has tossed a pure gems in three of his last six starts. In his six June starts he had a 51/4 K/BB in 40 innings while sporting a 2.94 xERA. He has made 14 career starts versus the Phillies where he is 7-1 with a 2.20 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 86 innings. deGrom is the straight goods and we’re going to trust the Mets to give him a bit of run support.
