7:20 PM EST. Nick Pivetta (RHP - PHI) draws a road start against a hot-hitting Atlanta Braves ballclub which has gotten to him for four jacks and eight earned runs in 11.1 innings this season. The Braves have registered an impressive .277/.352/.520 (.872) line since June 1 and Pivetta is coming off back-to-back awful starts so not only are his skills in decline, so, too, is his confidence. Man, this is a bad spot for Pivetta, that being when he’s struggling and facing a team that has murdered him.

Bryse Wilson (RHP - ATL) returned to the Braves rotation, averaging an improved 96 MPH on the radar gun, in a June 28 turn at Wrigley. Wilson is worth a look in this home start against an average Phillies offense, one that leans to the right (low-contact .729 OPS vs. RHP) and which has had its fair share of road struggles. Wilson has made just two starts for the Braves and the surface stats are ugly (8.10 ERA), which works to our benefit because Atlanta comes at a bargain here. Pay no attention to Wilson’s ERA and focus more on a respectable 4.13 xERA over his two starts. Dude has a 90% first-pitch strike rate and 10 K’s in nine frames. This is a starter that accelerated quickly through the Braves system last season, even garnering a late-season look, including a masterful performance in his debut against the Mets. He added velocity to his fastball and improved the plane and movement of the pitch, which caused it to go from average to plus. His secondaries are sharp and poised to collect strikeouts and now that he has two bad surface starts, a correction to the good is forthcoming.
