7:10 PM EST. One might think that the Yankees don’t have to travel far to get to Queens but nothing could be further from the truth. The Yanks played on Wednesday against Toronto, flew to London, England and arrived on Thursday, played Saturday and Sunday in two marathon games and then flew back to New York to prepare for this series. These guys aren’t machines and after a half season of traveling almost every week and playing almost every day, a trip to and from England cannot be energizing. In fact, it had to be exhausting, especially when you consider that the two teams combined for 50 runs over two games.

We also like the pitching matchup, as Zack Wheeler (RHP - NYM) has been great while James Paxton (LHP - NYY) has not. In five June starts Paxton posted a 7.15 ERA, 1.99 WHIP, 5.62 xERA and awful command of the strike zone. Three of those five June starts were complete disasters, including one versus the Mets on June 11. On the road in five starts this season, Paxton owns an ugly 5.96 ERA and 1.71 WHIP.

Zack Wheeler had a mediocre April (4.70 ERA, 1.40 WHIP in 31 innings). He has turned around his skills so far in May and June with 10.9 K’s/9, 1.5 BB’s/9, 48% grounders and a nice 3.75 xERA. His rates of swinging and first-pitch strikes are soaring too. The Yanks are in a very difficult spot here, they do not have an edge on the mound and all the value is on the Mets.
