8:15 PM EST. Brandon Woodruff (RHP - MIL) has shown signs of converting his upside into reality so far in 2019. His skills in June again were excellent with 11.7 K’s/9, 2.4 BB’s/9, 46% grounders and an elite xERA of 3.13. His fastball velocity soared too (97.0 mph) and he has improved his command against both LH and RH bats in each of the last two seasons. We have nothing bad to say about Woodruff and understand that he gives the Crew the best chance to win out of any of their other starters but we don’t care. 

We’re not coming off the Pirates when they’re taking back prices like this. Suddenly, the Pirates are winning frequently with nine wins in their past 12 games including the opener of this one last night. As a big underdog in Houston, the Buccos scored 14 and 10 runs respectively to take the final two games of that series by blowout fashion. Last night’s 3-2 win was a flattering score to the Brewers, as Pittsburgh once again was hitting everything hard but it was right at people more often than not. We’ve been preaching for weeks that this is one of the best lineups in the game and now their confidence is starting to soar. Imagine the Yanks, Astros, Cubbies, Bosox or Dodgers, with their hitting lineups taking back prices like this. Pittsburgh takes a backseat to nobody but they continue to take back ludicrous prices because this market isn’t fully aware of just how good they are. Again, we’re not coming off the Pirates because there is nothing but profits waiting until the market catches up. 

In case you’re interested, today, it’ll be Jordan Lyles (RHP - PIT), who comes off the 10-day DL for this start. The Pirates get another healthy body back and Lyles has been more than serviceable with 66 K’s and 24 walks issued in 64 innings to go along with a very respectable 4.14 xERA. Incidentally, Pittsburgh is 4 games out of first and get James Taillon back real soon. It is of our humble opinion, backed by several key analytics, that this is the best team in the AL Central that is 9-1 to win the division. That comes recommended too.
