7:05 PM EST. It looks like the Orioles are going with a bullpen start here, as Jimmy Yacobonis has just one start in 15 overall appearances. He’s pitched a total of 23 innings this season so he’ll be going one or two innings. After a long, drawn out road trip through Oakland and Seattle in which the Orioles lost six of seven, the pitching staff was torched to the tune of 59 runs against. That’s an average of more than eight runs per game in two pitchers parks. Now they’ll return home battered and bruised in their extreme hitters park.

Logan Allen (LHP - SD) was excellent in his MLB debut, where he threw seven shutout innings against the Brewers. He will try to repeat that effort versus a vastly inferior Orioles lineup. After two series that saw their bullpen depleted, game after game, the Padres were looking for reinforcements and called up Allen to make his major league debut and the kid delivered.  The 22-year-old lefty has been repeating Triple-A El Paso this year, where other than a jump in his HR rate, his skill numbers improved over the 27.2 innings he pitched there in 2018. Take away his first two ugly starts to the season and Allen had a 3.76 ERA in his other 11 games started. For his career, batters have only hit .229 against him, showing his skill. Allen has three pitches to work with, including a plus change-up that he throws with deception. His low-90s fastball plays up with late life out of a three-quarter arm slot. His third pitch is a mid-80s slider, and is just average in quality. He gets the strikeouts, but using pitchability more than dominance. He knows how to mix pitches up, he's durable, and he has the makings of a solid mid-rotation starter. As a Top-10 prospect in a system loaded with prospects, Allen is a good one.

We love that the Padres got swept in Pittsburgh because they’ll come into this series in a foul mood. Furthermore, despite losing in Pittsburgh, the Pirates belted out 28 hits in the three games in one of the best hitters parks in MLB. Remember what they did at Coors in a hitter’s park recently? They and the Rocks were setting offensive records and now the Friars get more of the same at Camden against a  much weaker squad. Do not miss this bet.
