7:07 PM EST. Jose Suarez (LHP - LAA) has made just three starts since being called up on June 2 and in 16 innings, he has a BB/K split of 6/13 with a 4.50/5.03 ERA/xERA split. However, he also has a 14% swing & miss rate. Suarez is built like a fireplug at 5-10, 225, a stature that isn't ideal for a starting pitcher. However, he's had good results thus far in his career: a 3.70 ERA spanning 326 minor-league innings to go along with 9.7 K’s/9. While Suarez displayed excellent control in the lower levels of the minors, the walks have crept up a bit during his time at Triple-A. His history shows that his control should adjust with time—and considering that he's only 21 years old, he has that luxury. His fastball sits in the low 90s with good life and can touch 95 mph. His primary offspeed pitch is a plus change, and his curve has improved every season. His pitchability also sets a high floor, as well—something that makes him a pretty safe bet to enjoy some success at the big league level. That’s the skinny on Suarez but make no mistake that this wager has nothing to do with getting behind him. The Angels don’t want to leave Toronto and will now face one of MLB’s worst starters.

Clayton Richard (LHP - TOR) made his 2019 regular season debut on May 23, going four innings while yielding two hits and two walks against two strikeouts. He only threw 10.2 innings in spring training and his only rehab start lasted 3.1 innings so he’s not up to speed with the rest of the league. Overall, Richard has made just five starts this year covering 20 innings. He has struck out 12 and walked 13 batters with a horrible 6% swing and miss rate and 53% first-pitch strike rate. Furthermore, his swing & miss rate last game was 4%. Clayton Richard is pitching because the Jays need innings and it sure doesn’t hurt to have an experienced vet showing the ropes to younger players during this rebuild. Richard is 0-3 with a 7.52 ERA. His WHIP of 1.77 is another indication of an aging pitcher with dead arm syndrome. Richard made a habit of posting an ERA well below his xERA over the years but the tables have turned on him and it’s doubtful that he’ll ever get it back. Keep fading.
