8:40 PM EST. The Coors Field angle remains in play here. Jonathan Gray (RHP - COL) has been maddeningly inconsistent, with two just as many rough outing as good ones. He's been at his best in Coors Field, where he has a 3.00 ERA in five starts compared to a 5.06 ERA on the road but when that occurs, a correction is likely coming. Gray will improve on the road and regress at home. He's already pitched one home game against San Diego on May 11 and allowed three runs, including two HR’s, in six innings with an 8/1 K/BB. The Padres have been above average on the road, ranking 6th in OPS.

Matt Strahm (RHP - SD) comes off the 10-day injured list due to a left rib strain in time for this clash with the Rockies. Strahm has been used effectively as both a starter and reliever and has both thrived and struggled  in both roles. He started several bullpen games last year too and worked in short stints as he recovered from July 2017 knee surgery. He’s been stretched out this year and if things go well, he can give the Friars five or six frames but regardless, there is lots to like: 1) Gets ahead with a strong first-pitch strike rate; 2) solid velocity; K ability from the left side; 3) Skills improved with more work. In 60 innings this season, Strahm has 56 K’s with just 11 walks issued with a 4.04/4.16 ERA/xERA split.
