8:05 PM EST. The Rangers broke our hearts last night after allowing the Mariners seven runs in the final two innings to turn a 10-2 lead into a 10-9 loss after we spotted 1½-runs but that’s not going to deter us from coming right back on the baseball Rags here. Lance Lynn (RHP - TEX) is riding a hot streak, as he has thrown three beauties in his last four, including a gem versus the Mariners back on April 28. Lynn is averaging 93.6 MPH again and has 28 K’s over his past 30 innings. His 4.94 ERA is due to an unlucky .333 BABIP but his 4.23 xERA is a better indication of how effective he’s been, as xERA does not take park factors into consideration. That said, this wager is a 100% straight fade on the Mariners starter.

Tommy Milone (LHP - SEA) is starting today because the Mariners are the most pitching desperate team in baseball. Milone makes his season debut here after appearing in just five MLB games last year for the Nationals. In 2017 he pitched for the Mets and Brewers and in 2016 he pitched for the Twins. Back in 2017 when the Mets gave him a shot, it was at a time when they had three starters on the DL, a fourth suspended and Rafael Montero pitching poorly. He had a 6.43 ERA in 21 innings with Milwaukee earlier that year. In his five appearances last year, his ERA was 5.81. Milone hasn’t been relevant since 2015 when he posted a fortunate 3.92 ERA in 23 starts for Minnesota. His fly-ball tendencies (career 36%/39% groundball/fly-ball rates) increase his risk even more at this hitter’s paradise. Despite an expressed desire to keep playing, this is the end of the road for this stiff but we get at least one more chance to eat well. Don’t miss it.
