7:20 PM EST. Mike Foltynewicz (RHP - ATL) did not get the benefits of a spring training and his early results have been dismal. It has been a nightmare beginning to his season with disasters in two of his three starts. Foltynewicz has allowed five jacks in those three starts while posting just 5.4 K’s/9 and a 5.94/5.97 ERA/xERA split. It would be real simple to sell anyone on fading Foltynewicz here so we have to wonder why the price on the Cards is so short. Fact is, Foltynewicz still possesses premium velocity that is paired with improving command and an improving groundball rate to paint an optimistic picture. Last year was his best season by far, as he used a more effective slider (27% usage, 19% swing and miss) en route to 200-K season. Three starts in and he’s probably going to start thriving anytime now so there is a window of opportunity to buy low.

Jack Flaherty’s stock is through the roof right now after posting 47 K’s in 42 frames through his first eight starts. Pitching for the popular Cardinals increases his market presence too. We’re not here to rain on Flaherty’s parade because what he’s doing is legit. However, control issues from 2017 debut (4.2 BB’s/9) improved, but are still present and his shaky first-pitch strike rate says he's not out of the woods just yet. Despite Flaherty’s upside, his hype might outweigh profit this season. Lastly, the Cardinals are laboring right now and this might not be the team to get right-sided against.
