4:10 PM EST. Max Fried (LHP - ATL) is slated to make this start after he left his May 7 start at Los Angeles after one innings and four earned runs with a left hand contusion. If he wasn’t ready, the Braves would skip him so we’re not going to put any weight on him leaving his last start after getting hit by a line drive on his hand. Fried’s 53% groundball rate and 3.48 xERA matters more and so does his BB/K split of 8/34 in 39 innings. Max Fried is high on our list of under the radar starters. This former top prospect is finally showing signs of tapping into his outstanding upside. His soaring first-pitch strike rate and swing and miss rate put further command growth on the table so watch his upward trending xERA and get behind him often. Finally, the Braves scored six times last night and probably should have scored more after every batter was crushing the ball and getting great AB’s. Against Zach Godley (RHP - ARI), expect some crooked offensive innings from the Braves dangerous and confident hitters.

Zachary Godley is a starter in trouble. In fact, the D-Backs called up two minor league starters last week in anticipation of Godley losing his starting rotation gig so he’s hanging by a thread while looking over his back. After looking like a budding anchor in 2017, Godley lost two mph on fastball last year and his prior wildness returned. This year it’s worse. Godley has walked 16 batters over his past 21 innings. His fastball now averages a mere 89 MPH. He also comes in with one of the worst WHIP’s (1.72) among all qualified starters. His ERA/xERA split of 7.94/6.02 tells us there's nothing here to suggest he’ll go back to 2017 levels. Godley’s teetering skills are crashing and with a marginal profile at best, now is the time to run as far away from this stiff as possible.
