7:10 PM EST. We'll get this out of the way first. Trevor Bauer is great. He's got more pitches than Uncle Scrooge has riches, but he is just a man. On paper, a 3-1 record with an ERA of 1.99 looks excellent, and it appears that Bauer has put down his drone long enough to wrestle the title of Indians "ace" from Corey Kluber. We're not going to place too much shade on the 28-year-old, but do know that you are going to pay a premium to back him despite his posting an xERA that is near double his surface number (3.93). Bauer has also been quite lucky when you consider he sports the lowest BABIP on the board today at just .222. The league average this season is .293 and his strand rate is a bloated 87.9%. Finally, Bauer is walking batters at a high clip (4.2 BB/9) and he issued six free passes in his last outing. Something here has to give.

The Marlins are an MLB worst 8-20, but they'll send Sandy Alcantara out to try and shut down the Cleveland bats tonight after he had some success against the Indians last time out. Alcantara did not pick up the win despite holding the Indians to just one earned run over five innings, but that has been par for the course, as he has not been able to grab a victory in his last four starts despite pitching well. The 23-year-old had done a good job keeping the balls that are hit down with his 49.4% ground ball rate. For comparison, Bauer has the third worst GB% on the board today (36.6%). Alcantara also sports a 95 MPH fastball that is just a half-tick faster that Bauers (94.7). With Alcantara, what you see is what you get and that's solid. He and the Fish are very much worth a bet at an inflated price like this.
