3:07 PM EST. Aaron Sanchez (RHP - TOR) was removed from his last outing due to a broken fingernail on his right middle finger but will make this scheduled start. It’s actually pretty amazing how many finger issues he’s had over the years. 2017 was ruined by blisters; last year he caught a finger in a suitcase in June and eventually had surgery on it in September. Now this. Amid the carnage here, Sanchez can’t find the plate. He’s walked 16 batters in 26 innings and his swing and miss rate last game was 5%. Sanchez has a nifty little 2.77 ERA working for him but it’s nothing more than a mirage aided by a 78% strand rate and a .258 BABIP. On the surface, Sanchez has had a pretty decent five starts to begin the year but underneath the hood, he’s posted ugly returns that includes a 5.02 xERA. Sell Aaron Sanchez and sell him fast.

Brett Anderson also departed his last outing due to a left ankle sprain but he’s back from the dead yet again. Anderson missed 68 days last year to injury. In 2016 and ‘17, he lost 243 days to injury. He’s never been much of a strikeout guy to begin with and this year it’s even worse. Brett Anderson has walked 10 and struck out 16 in 27 innings. See that 3.04 ERA? It’s actually not fluky. Anderson’s 64% first-pitch strike rate says those walks will come down. He’s a pitcher that induces a high amount of ground-balls and when he is healthy, he almost always gives his team a chance to win. Lastly, the Jays and A’s have met four times this year and Toronto is 4-0 in those games. That can’t last much longer either.
