8:40 PM EST. Getting shutout in Colorado isn’t easy to do but the Pirates, who came in hot, managed to do exactly that last night. Don’t expect lightning to strike twice with Chad Bettis (RHP) on the mound. Bettis had been designated for the 10-day disabled list with a blister on his right middle finger. He suffered a setback during his recovery but will return to the rotation here. Bettis had to bail during the fourth inning of his July 1 outing against the Dodgers with what he called a hot spot on his middle finger. When it was diagnosed as a blister, rest was prescribed and the timing was just right. At the end of April, Bettis’ ERA sat at 2.43, but the repressed hit rate and much higher xERA warned that a downturn in fortune might be coming, and it certainly has. In his 11 starts since, Bettis has been battered to the tune of a 6.79 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 6.22 xERA. His first-pitch strike rate hinted that his below average control could be even worse and the bill finally came due. Coming off the DL, there is just nothing about Bettis’ skills to feel good about.

Jameson Taillon has been high on our radar all season long and will remain there until further notice. Dude has a BB/K split of 34/116 in 125 frames. He also has a nice four-pitch mix to keep hitters off balance. Taillon throws 94 MPH on average, rarely walks anyone and has a nice 13% swing and miss rate. Coors Field takes no prisoners and Taillon isn’t immune but give Pittsburgh an advantage in every area including current form, bullpen (Colorado’s is second worst in baseball) and starting pitching.

PLEASE NOTE: One of the unique things about our website is that we provide write-ups every single day on every game we post. We’re not sure if everyone understands how time consuming that is and how difficult it is as well but if you do not, please try it one day and you’ll see.

That said, we’re not going to change that. We’ll have write-ups every single day like we always do but we’re also going to have another feature. You see, we post our games usually in the early afternoon or before 1:00 PM EST but there is a lot of movement and other intangibles that occur throughout the day that has influence on what we’re betting. Usually after 6:00 PM EST or thereabouts, we’re going to be adding other games that we’re betting on in a section called “add-ons” for today that we ARE NOT going to write up because it’s too time consuming and with an hour or less before the first game goes off, we just won’t have the time.

This is a feature that you will see on our home page with the other wagers and we’ll also tweet it out when our add-ons have been posted.
