4:05 PM EST. We’ve pointed out a couple of times how fortunate and misleading the Mariners record is and in case you missed it, you can read about it in our writeup from yesterday here. With that, out attack on the Mariners will be relentless the rest of the way until we see a market correction. One could play the Angels today at a small price and that would be a bargain too but we’re going for the bigger payoff like we usually do.

Marco Gonzales is 11-5 with a 3.38 ERA and has been without question one of this year’s surprises. He’s been reliable with 20 starts and he’s also been consistently good. Gonzales tries to be efficient, as he prefers quick outs and likes to use both his change and his two-seam fastball down in the zone to get groundball outs. That said, when his command is on and he is sequencing well, he can get plenty of swings and misses on the change-up alone. Gonzales loves to tinker with the changeup and now throws it with different velocities and movements, depending on his grip. However, his fastball tops off at 90 MPH and another question mark is the approach that Gonzales has taken in his career. While groundball outs have been desirable in the past, the new emphasis on launch angle has made pitches down in the zone prime home run fodder. Predictably, a good bit of the trouble that Gonzales had in the majors in 2017 was an inflated HR/9 of 1.8. That has predictably regressed this season but Gonzales will now face a red-hot Angels lineup that scored 14, 12, 12 and 11 runs in four of their past seven games. We also like that the Angels faced Gonzalez twice already in July and will now see him for the third time this month.

Everything has come together well for Felix Pena (RHP), transitioning from the bullpen to the rotation and more than holding his own through 32 innings and six starts. Even before he moved, Pena featured bat-missing stuff, placing second in the Southern League in 2016 in strikeouts with 140 in 129.2 IP. His fastball is a plus offering, touching 97 with enough gas and movement to blow it by hitters. His slider is above average and major league hitters are having a hard time with it. Felix Pena is under the radar. He has 34 K’s in 32 innings with a supported 13% swing and miss rate. He just faced the Dodgers in back-to-back starts and they got to him for just six hits over 10.1 frames. He also struck out 13 Dodgers over those those 10.1 innings. The Mariners have never seen Pena either, which also works greatly in our favor here.

PLEASE NOTE: One of the unique things about our website is that we provide write-ups every single day on every game we post. We’re not sure if everyone understands how time consuming that is and how difficult it is as well but if you do not, please try it one day and you’ll see.

That said, we’re not going to change that. We’ll have write-ups every single day like we always do but we’re also going to have another feature. You see, we post our games usually in the early afternoon or before 1:00 PM EST but there is a lot of movement and other intangibles that occur throughout the day that has influence on what we’re betting. Usually after 6:00 PM EST or thereabouts, we’re going to be adding other games that we’re betting on in a section called “add-ons” for today that we ARE NOT going to write up because it’s too time consuming and with an hour or less before the first game goes off, we just won’t have the time.

This is a feature that you will see on our home page with the other wagers and we’ll also tweet it out when our add-ons have been posted.
