8:10 PM EST. Zack Godley (RHP) has not been able to carry forward the gains he showed in 2017, at least in aggregate. Dude can pitch but he’s wildly inconsistent and brings a troublesome 1.53 WHIP into this start. With traffic on the bases constantly, he’s pitching under stress most of the time and he rarely pitches past five innings. Godley has walked 15 batters over his past 28 frames and he’s walked 53 over 105 frames overall. Is that the type of pitcher you want to get behind spotting a big price? We don’t and it’s not like the Snakes are killing it. Arizona has lost two in a row and five of seven while the Rockies have won six in a row.

Kyle Freeland’s pitch mix makes him one of the more difficult pitchers to swing against. Freeland, to put a finer point on the pitch mix changes, has gone from an extremely heavy reliance on a sinker/four-seam fastball/cutter (83% usage in 1H of 2017, with just 17% of that being the cutter) to 28% or greater usage of those three pitches in the 2H of 2017 (36% four-seam, 28% sinker and 29% cutter), to now throwing four pitches at least 14% of the time and another 9% (38% four-seam, 25% cutter, 15% change-up, 14% sinker and 9% slider). Freeland’s cutter, change-up, and slider have all drawn additional swings and misses in 2018, giving him three double-digit swing and miss offerings of 15%, 11% and 11%, respectively. Freeland is not an ace despite his 3.11 ERA while pitching at a difficult venue. There will be spots in the second half to fade because regression is coming but he and the red-hot Rocks are worth a wager at this price.
