7:10 PM EST. The departure of Manny Machado has caused a market overreaction and as much as we cannot stomach the Orioles, they’re worth a bet here. Machado's departure turns what was essentially a 3B job share between Tim Beckham (40 games) and Danny Valencia (36 games), into full-time duty for each on the left side of the infield, with Beckham sliding over to SS and Valencia holding on to the hot corner. Valencia has had a cold month (.195 BA) driven by a 21% hit rate but a 23% line-drive % suggests positive regression is on the horizon. Beckham is hitting line drives too (29%). For the Blue Jays, Kevin Pillar is on the rack, which means Randal Grichuk and his .206 BA slides into his spot and into centerfield, none of which helps the Blue Jays. Nobody is talking about though.

Sam Gaviglio is a 28-year-old rookie that has pitched to low expectations with predictable results. He shows a nice curveball, but a lack of swing-and-miss stuff underscores his mundane arsenal that batters are starting to abuse. Over his last three starts, Gaviglio has lasted 4.1, 1.2 and 3.1 innings respectively after being torched for 14 hits, nine runs and walking four over those 9.1 frames combined. This is a pitcher that both the Mariners and Royals gave up on last year and neither of the two are in a position to give up on a starter that is major-league ready. Gaviglio is clearly not.

Dylan Bundy (RHP) came off the DL on July 6 but only missed one start due to his left ankle sprain. The ace of their staff with three dominant starts in his last four outings prior to the injury, is one of the few bright spots for the pitching side of the 2018 Orioles roster. Bundy owns a 5.22 ERA in his last five games started but his 14% swing and miss rate and 9.8 K’s/9 is elite. He has better command in away starts and allowing fewer away HR (14% hr/f) has helped his 3.97 away ERA. If starting pitchers have heavy influence on the price of a ballgame, than this is the bargain of the day, as Bundy is an upper tier starter that would crack 100% of the rotations in this league while Gaviglio couldn’t start anywhere else.
