7:05 PM EST. This is a rematch of starters from last Wednesday's battle in the Bronx, but this one-off encounter in Washington is actually a makeup game from a rainout in May.

While we can't say for sure, there has got to be a player or two on the A's that dream of the day they can leave the Bay Area behind to put on the Yankees pinstripes, but for Sonny Gray, the move to New York has been a bit of a nightmare. Gray is 4-4 on the season and features an ERA of 4.98. His strikeout rate is down and his walks are up over last season. One reason for his struggles is that he's giving up fewer ground balls than ever before. In last week's game against the Nationals, Gray was shaky throughout and struck out just one batter over his five innings pitched. While Gray has been a much better pitcher on the road than at home this season, that significant performance split isn't lost on the market, which is why Sonny is spotting a price in D.C. tonight. However, that's not right.

The Nationals will once again send Erick Fedde out to tackle the Yankee hitters. Fedde has first-round pedigree after he was taken by the Nats in 2014. Fedde has made two starts in 2018 but has yet to pick up a win. That fact, along with his bloated ERA of 5.91 make him look like an easy target for New York's big bats, but a closer looks show his xERA is a much more respectable 3.64. Fedde has struck out nine batters in his 10 innings pitched this season, while only walking two. Fedde took a little longer to get to the majors after making his debut in 2017 because he blew out his elbow in his draft year, but the Nats trusted his skill set and took him anyway. He features a nasty 95 MPH fastball with life and he also has three quality secondary pitches starting with an overhand curve, a crisp slider and a nice mid-80s changeup. Fedde has all the tools in his toolbox and it's only a matter of time before he starts racking up the wins. The Nationals stock hasn’t been lower in quite some time after getting swept in by the hapless Blue Jays in Toronto last weekend and after losing five of their last six games. We now get an opportunity to buy low on both teh Nats and Fedde, which is precisely what we’ll do.
