1:35 PM EST. Joe Musgrove (RHP) has thrown two dominant starts in four tries but he’s faced the Cubbies, Dodgers and red-hot Snakes in his last three starts respectively with the latter being played at Chase Field. Musgrove now makes a start against the Reds' below-average offense vs. RHP. His 61% first-pitch strike rate and overall great control leads to a strong WHIP rating, and his 50% groundball rate bodes well for his ERA at this park or any park for that matter. Factor in his 23 K’s in 25 innings with a 13% swing and miss rate to go along with his 3.22 xERA and this is a true ace in the making that is not being recognized as such.

Anthony DeSclafani (RHP) has made just three starts this year after missing a full season last year with elbow problems. Prior to last year, scouts described him as "still evolving." A year without throwing a pitch in anger doesn't move that process forward, so best to give him some space to re-construct his career. In a small sample size this year, DeSclafani has struck out 11 batters in 10 innings but that does not have the support of his 9% swing and miss rate. Additionally, the Pirates have struck out the least amount of times in the NL and second least in the entire league so Desclafani is likely going to be throwing a lot of pitches to be getting outs. Big edge all around to the Buccos here.
