12:10 PM EST. Note the early start time. Dereck Rodriguez (RHP) was excellent in his first start against the Phillies, allowing one earned run in six innings with a BB/K split of 2/6 but his command deserted him in his second start and he was pounded in his third by the Nationals to the tune of five earned runs in only 2.2 innings. Rodriguez’s weak command makes this a risky outing and now that there is film on him, MLB hitters have been hitting him hard since that first start. Rodriguez has an xERA of 8.54 in a small sample size and truth be told, the only reason he’s in the rotation is because the Giants need healthy bodies.

Dan Straily (RHP) has struggled badly in his three home starts, allowing 10 earned runs in 12 innings. Look it, Straily has pitched for five teams in five years so if he’s not good enough to employ, why should we get behind him? Well, for one, his stock is low and for two, he’s serviceable. That said, this one is all about situation, as the Giants can’t wait to get the hell out of this place and get to Los Angeles for a weekend set with their biggest rivals. Dodgers/Giants is the NL version of Yanks/Red Sox and one of the biggest rivalries in sports that every player looks forward to. Big look-ahead spot for the Giants in a noon start in Miami.
