2:10 PM EST. Note the early start time. Michael Clevinger (RHP) has been all or nothing in his past four starts, with two dominant starts and two diasters. One of the dominant games came on May 29 against the White Sox in Cleveland, when he allowed only one earned run in 6 + innings with a 7/2 K/BB. Clevinger has struggled on the road, with a 4.12 ERA compared to 2.43 at home. We always like to look at fading a pitcher the second time he’s seeing a team after dominating them the first time. It seldom turns out the same way. Clevinger has walked 15 batters over his last 31 frames not to mention a troublesome 1.45 WHIP over that same span. Clevingers also comes in with a 5.09 xERA over his last six starts and will now face a White Sox club that is heating up in a big way. A young, enthusiastic and confidence squad playing well and with house money is a dangerous team.

Carlos Rodon (LHP) will oppose Clevinger, as he makes his second start of the season since coming off the DL. Rodon pitched well against the Red Sox in Boston, allowing only two earned runs in five innings, while fanning seven. Cleveland has been below average on the road, with an OPS ranking 11th in the AL. Biceps bursitis shelved Rodon until late June of last year so that makes his season debut even more impressive. Rodon flashed a big strikeout rate and improving control along with five straight two-runs-or-less starts through late Aug until shoulder bursitis ended his season in early September. One can only imagine the sense of relief he had after throwing a great game against Boston. Rodon is still very young, and it's good to remember that he mostly skipped the minors because he was so good in college. We touted him as a breakout candidate back in March of last year and with strong career peripherals and an outstanding groundball rate, that potential breakout is in play.
