7:10 PM EST.  Ryne Stanek (RHP) is starting but he’s not expected to go past two or three innings, as the Rays continue to use a “start by committee approach”. Therefore we cannot put a lot of emphasis on Tampa’s starter here. Stanek, however, has some impressive returns that starts with a 17% swing and miss rate and 18 K’s over 14 innings. He throws 98 MPH on average. We do not know who’s in line to replace Stanek after an inning or two or three but that’s no concern, as this is a straight fade on the Jays and their miserable record here with a below average starter going. The Rays, on the other hand, get a big boost of confidence when Toronto comes calling and mindset counts for something.

The Jays were coming off a four game winning streak before the start of this series so any momentum they had from beating the dumpster fire Orioles is long gone. Toronto continues to lose to this team at this venue with great regularity and while we’re sorry we missed yesterday’s victory in an evenly priced game, we’re not going to miss this opportunity to come right back on the Rays in an evenly priced game. Man, are the Jays getting too much respect here.

Jamie Garcia (LHP) was dealing with a blister on his index finger and it was unknown if he would even be able to make this scheduled start but here we are. Blisters are a nagging and extremely annoying injury that can often lead to a pitcher changing his grip. Three weeks into May, Garcia was placed on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation. In between all that, Garcia has made 11 starts and comes in with below average skills across the board. Garcia’s 50 K’s in 54 innings is not supported by his 9% swing and miss rate. His 25 walks is supported by his weak 55% first-pitch strike rate. Garcia’s groundball rate of 43% is the worst mark of his career and is also below league average. Throw in a 5.57 ERA, a 4.79 xERA and a horrible WHIP of 1.56 and there is nothing to like about Garcia’s profile. There’s also nothing to like about he and the Jays being evenly priced here.
