9:40 PM EST. The Diamondbacks are rolling again after a month-long slump and it's no surprise their resurgence is coming off the end of Paul Goldschmidt's red-hot bat. Goldy was named the National League Player of the week yesterday after posting a ridiculous .640 batting average with four home runs and 11 RBIs over six contests. The Snakes went 5-1 in those games and have now won eight of their last 10 including four straight after last night's comeback over the Pirates. The D-Backs were stuck five runs before posting five tallies of their own in the seventh and four more in the eighth to seal the deal.

Clay Buchholz (RHP) has made four starts this season, where he has an impressive 3/21 BB/K split in 24 IP. Due to an 88% strand rate, his ERA and WHIP look spectacular. However, his 3.91 xERA is more than acceptable. He threw a gem in his only home start to date. Because he spent most of his career in the American League, he has only made one start against the Pirates and it came in 2014, which might be appropriate, as it appears Buchholz has turned back the clock and is pitching like he was at his peak.

The Pirates haven't won back-to-back games since the middle of May and after their collapse last evening that trend will continue. Enter Trevor Williams (RHP), who might be the least inspiring option in a rotation loaded with young stud arms. Williams' surface stats are a smoke and mirror show that would make David Copperfield blush. We've been fading Williams for a few starts now and we’re not going to stop now. Trevor Williams owns a marginal skill set with a 4.70 xERA. He rode a 22% hit rate and 79% strand rate to a 2.29 ERA in April despite a 5.03 xERA. Williams is giving up a ton of fly balls, which is another flaw in his profile that will catch up to him.  His 90 MPH fastball is not going to intimidate many and his strikeout rate of just 6.21 K’s/9 is a reflection of that. If you can't get hitters to swing and miss, you're going to have a bad time. It gets worse, as Williams is also walking guys left and right with a walk rate of 3.04 BB’s/9. It's never easy to step in front of a freight train, but that is the task the Pirates are faced with, as Arizona has been near unstoppable as of late. Thankfully we have the choice to not only to get the hell out of the way but also hop aboard and ride the Snakes' gravy train all the way to the window.
