10:15 PM EST  Zach Godley (RHP - ARI) is a starter that exceeded expectations in 2017, posting a 3.37 ERA in 155 innings but things haven’t gone quite as well in 2018, as he owns a 4.38 ERA through 62 innings. What’s happening? Walks have been a sore spot at times in the past, but Godley reined them in for most of 2017. However, it’s troubling to see the worsened control so far in 2018, especially considering he posted a 4 BB’s/9 over his final 10 appearances of 2017 (23 BB in 54 IP). His 2018 control sub-indicators paint a rather ominous picture. His velocity has also waned compared to 2017, though it has fluctuated a bit over the years (2015: 91.4 mph; 2016: 90.8 mph; 2017: 91.9 mph; 2018: 90.4 mph). Godley has displayed some worrisome signs thus far in 2018. The worsened control sub-indicators, especially following a late-2017 increase in free passes, bears watching, as does the 1.5 mph drop in velocity and slight strikeouts/swinging strikes dip.

Derek Holland (LHP, SF) has struck out 48 batters in 58 frames so far this season, which has seen an uptick in his strikeout rate over 2017. He's also issuing fewer free passes and lowered his walk rate by 1.3 BB/9. There were a lot of MLB teams that passed on Derek Holland this offseason, but he's been pitching at his highest level since 2013 when he was with the Rangers. His poor performance as of late can undoubtedly be attributed to the injuries that have been steadily ruining his career since 2014, but one has to admire Holland's resiliency, as he continues to pitch himself back into something resembling his former self. More importantly, this isn’t a wager on the pitcher v pitcher matchup. The Giants have momentum, they’re tough as shoe leather at home, they’re swinging some hot bats (ranking 5th in May in xRuns Scored and they’ll face a pitcher that struggles horribly with control.
