1:10 PM EST. The Angels are coming off a weekend series in the Bronx and there is the distinct possibility of a letdown here. The Angels will also travel to play a 1:00 PM EST game after playing in the early afternoon yesterday, which is highly unusual and takes them completely out of routine.

Tyler Skaggs (LHP) is another arm that has started the season strongly. His 3.11 ERA and 1.24 WHIP have strong support from his underlying skills 9.7 K’s/9 48% grounders but his 10.6% overall swing and miss rate and his 34% groundball rate over his last two starts is not solid footing for his primary skills. Skaggs is good but the Tigers offense continues to get shortchanged by this market. Detroit’s offense has struck out the third least in the majors.

Another wrong perception is that Matt Boyd (LHP) is a weak pitcher when he’s not. Matt Boyd has done a great job of going deep into games despite exiting early in his last outing, as he's tallied six innings or more in seven of his nine games overall. Incidentally, Boyd was throwing a one-hitter in four innings in his last game before feeling some discomfort and being removed but it was minor and he’s back in here. Boyd continues to see skills gains this month (3.66 xERA) to go along with a K-rate increase (8.4) that's been supported by an 12% swing and miss rate. The Angels offense sits in the bottom-10 against LHP. Make no mistake that we’re getting an inflated price on the Tigers here in what we’re calling the biggest overlay on the board today. That doesn’t mean it will win but it does mean we’re getting great value with a damn good chance to cash this ticket.
