7:05 PM EST. The Mariners carried a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning last night but could not hang on for the victory but that’s not going to deter us from coming right back on the M’s here. Mike Leake (RHP) will make the start today, but he does not have the surface stats to inspire the market to lineup at the window and drop their hard-earned dollars down to back him. However, his xERA is 1.26 points lower than his actual ERA so it's not as bad as it might look. Leake's latest setback came against the Angels, but L.A. is one of the best teams in the American League, so we're not going to put too much stock into that blow-up. This play has much less to do with Leake than it does with continuing to fade a Toronto team that cannot be favored in this range against a lineup as good as Seattle's.

On paper, it might look like the Blue Jays responded to being no-hit on Tuesday with a resounding 5-2 win last night but if you watched that game, you saw a team that was just as lethargic as it was the night before save for a four-run eighth inning. J.A. Happ takes the bump today after suffering just his second loss of the season against Tampa Bay in a start on May 4th. Happ's strikeout numbers are way up this season, but at 35½-years-old, one has to wonder how this guy started punching out batters at a rate that would make Roger Clemens blush. The cracks finally started showing against the Rays, as Happ gave up his seventh home-run in seven starts while walking a season-high four batters. Happ is relying more on his fastball than ever before, but it only clocks in a 91.9 MPH. With seven starts under his belt, there is now enough film for teams to figure out the adjustments he has made to his game and now they'll be sitting on those fastballs because they know they are coming at an increased frequency. A disciplined team like the Mariners, who have the second-best strikeout rate in the majors is a bad matchup for Happ so we're going in for the kill and will back Seattle on the reverse run line.
