7:07 PM EST. Wade LeBlanc (LHP) has a tough act to follow after James Paxton's gem last night, but the veteran appears to be up to the task after putting together four scoreless innings against the A's in his first start of the year last Thursday. LeBlanc is taking the place of the injured Erasmo Ramirez and has very little market presence, but he is backed by a Mariners’ team that has posted at least five runs a game in six of their last 10 contests including back-to-back nights where they hung double digits on the Indians. Seattle's bullpen is certain to be in play tonight, as LeBlanc does not have the experience of going deep into games, but the relievers got the night off after Paxton pitched the complete game no-no last night.

The Blue Jays are reeling after being no-hit by the Canadian Paxton and the Mariners in the opening game of this series. The fiasco surrounding the Jays' failure to sign Paxton after drafting him in 2009 has been national news and only rubs salt into the wound of a team that is desperate for reliable starting pitching. The troubling allegations and charges laid against closer Roberto Osuna also loom large over the Rogers Centre, this the Jays are dealing with plenty of distractions and that’s never good in a thinking mans game.

Toronto has now lost five of its last seven games and with Jaime Garcia (LHP) toeing the slab tonight, a stop to the bleeding seems unlikely. Garcia is 2-2 with an ERA of 6.60 over his six starts. A look underneath the hood suggests that Garcia hasn't been as bad as those surface stats would suggest, as his strikeout rate is up over last season and his xERA (4.46) is lower than his actual ERA, but he's been trending downward with each trip to the mound. The home run ball has been Garcia's biggest issue, as he's given up eight bombs so far this season including at least one in every start. In his last outing against the Indians, Garcia went just 3.1 innings and gave up six earned runs including a three-run shot to Francisco Lindor. The Jays' woes at the plate have been well documented, as Toronto has now scored just 11 runs over their last five games. The Blue Jays are in free fall mode and we will not miss out on the potential profits that are waiting in fading them when they are favored like they are today.
